In collaboration with the research and service institute Papiertechnische Stiftung (PTS) Heidenau in Germany, Voith is introducing a new measuring method to detect unwanted tacky contaminants known as stickies. The measuring method, which uses a near-infrared (NIR) camera, allows the reliable detection of contaminants along the papermaking process and offers higher measuring accuracy and a wider range of applications compared to conventional methods. The associated technical rule was recently published as DIN SPEC 6745.

Mondi has successfully completed the implementation of a new state-of-the-art paper sack converting machine at its Nyíregyháza site in Hungary. The machine – a Windmöller & Hölscher AD 8320 / AM 8115 – allows the plant to produce a new line of sophisticated paper sacks for food packaging. The site will be capable of producing more than 130 million sacks annually.

ABB has launched Strength Virtual Measurement, an ABB Ability™ Performance Service that enables mills to predict strength properties through accurate online measurements – also known as a soft sensor – resulting in a stronger, lighter product that costs less to produce.

BillerudKorsnäs launches Pure Performance, a White Top Kraftliner that combines high strength, excellent printability and purity in one material. Pure Performance is a unique paper product that offers packaging material reduction thanks to its 3-ply construction.

The Haptik Award competition by the trade magazine Paperazzo is back for 2020. The award honors high-quality paper and print products with a focus on tactile experiences.

Cartiera di Ferrara selected Toscotec for a complete dryer section rebuild of its coreboard machine at Ferrara mill in Italy. The paper machine produces coreboard in the range of 220 to 620 gsm, processing 100% recycled paper. The delivery is scheduled for the third quarter of 2020.

Valmet will supply Valmet Recovery Boiler Optimizer advanced process control (APC) solution to Asia Symbol (Shandong) Pulp and Paper Co., Ltd in China. The solution will be installed on the company’s pulp line (dubbed PL12) recovery boiler, helping the customer to reduce operating costs, eliminate process variations, optimize control, and improve production efficiency.

Södra is planning a new investment for its state-of-the-art pulp mill in Värö which will allow the mill to increase capacity yet further, in steps toward 850,000 tpy.

International technology group ANDRITZ has received an order from Sun Paper to supply pulp dewatering and white liquor plant technologies and key process equipment for their new pulp mill in Beihai, China. Start-up is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2021.
