Andritz acquires machine vision specialist Procemex

International technology group Andritz has acquired the Finnish company Procemex, global player in integrated web monitoring and web inspection solutions for the pulp and paper industry. The acquisition further strengthens Andritz’s automation and digitalization portfolio.

BW Converting launches its mission-led rebranding

Heinzel Group successfully starts up paper machine converted by Andritz at Steyrermühl, Austria

International technology group Andritz has completed the conversion of a graphic paper machine at Heinzel Group’s Steyrermühl mill in Austria. After a successful start-up, the machine is now producing kraft papers for packaging which are marketed under Heinzel Group’s well-established Starkraft brand. This enables Heinzel Pöls/Starkraft to take a major step forward in sustainable paper production and global expansion.

SCA recruits new Vice President Sustainability

SCA has recruited Per Funkquist as new Vice President Sustainability. Per Funkquist has extensive and solid experience in the forestry industry and will take up his new position on September 1, 2024. Funkquist, who holds a degree in forestry from SLU - the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, is joining from a role as Director of Communication and Sustainability Procurement & Wood Supply at another forest industry company.

Mondi and Meurer wake up coffee wrapping with new paper solution

Mondi has created a new secondary paper packaging solution for wrapping bundles of food and drinks, replacing plastic shrink film that has been the industry standard. The new paper solution, TrayWrap, is made with Mondi’s Advantage StretchWrap and is being used by a coffee brand to secure 12 coffee packages for transportation across Sweden.

Following approval by the relevant authorities, the acquisition of NAF AB business by international technology group Andritz has been completed. Toscotec to supply new rewinder line to Africaine Paper Mills

Toscotec will supply an Optima 1800 slitter rewinder to Algerian tissue manufacturer Africaine Paper Mills (APM) at their production facility in Rouiba near Algiers. The start-up is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2024. Designed for high efficiency winding, the new Optima 1800 slitter rewinder will process near 2,800 mm width parent reels using two unwind stands. Toscotec will also supply a complete service package with erection supervision, training, commissioning, and start-up assistance.

Valmet DNA Automation technology to the world’s largest data center excess heat recovery project in Finland

Valmet will supply its Valmet DNA Automation technology to the data center heat recovery concept developed by Fortum and Microsoft. The project is one of a kind: there is no data center heat recovery concept of a similar scale anywhere else in the world. Valmet DNA will control water-to-water heat pumps, air-to-water heat pumps and two electric boilers at two Fortum Power and Heat Oy’s heat pump plants which will be built in Espoo and Kirkkonummi, Finland.

The Council presents its to-do list for Europe’s competitiveness, making bioeconomy a priority for the next Commission

In its last meeting before the EU elections, the European Competitiveness Council presented today what could be considered as its guidelines for the upcoming Commission on how to keep Europe from an industrial decline. The plan entails supporting industries which have already taken the path of increased circularity, embraced the bioeconomy, and decoupled growth from resource use, such as the pulp and paper industry.
