Dear ipw reader,
this is going to be a hot autumn for the European Paper industry (eventhough temperature-wise it has started to get rather chilly)! Just before the next European Paper Week (EPW), held by CEPI at the end of November in Brussels, the EU energy council will meet to decide on a climate & energy policy framework. Besides, a new economic thinking – circular economy – will be pushed forward by the European Commission (and addressed during EPW at a separate seminar). It fits particularly well into this context, that Valmet announced the installation of a new bio pilot plant in its R&D center in Sundsvall. The hydrolysis system called BioTrac is part of Valmet’s investment into developing new technologies for biorefinery applications like bioethanol, bio based chemicals and biomaterial, such as bio based plastics. This indicates a big step forward: from now on this industry can test their own ideas for further refinement of its business models… As always, we will keep you informed in any event! Sincerely, |
