greetings from the World Bio-Markets Conference in Amsterdam, where UPM received the highest honors for the Lappeenranta Biorefinery by winning the Commercial Scale Plant of the year award at last night's gala event. UPM's BioVerno is produced out of crude tall oil, a wood-based residue of pulp production. A big portion of the raw material comes from UPM’s own pulp mills in Finland. Valmet receives order from Holmen for softwood line rebuild at Iggesund mill
Valmet will deliver equipment and services for a rebuild of the soft wood pulp line at Holmen's Iggesund mill in Sweden. The rebuild will improve production stability, cut variable costs and increase pulp production capacity by 15 percent equally to 50,000 tonnes. The works will be implemented in two stages during 2015 and 2016. › more |

AXA acquires 3,700 hectare of forest for for 11,2 million EUR from UPM
AXA Real Estate Investment Managers, on behalf of AXA Insurance Company, has acquired three forest estates in Finland from UPM, who will continue to provide forest management and timber harvesting services to ensure sustainable management of these forests. “Investor appetite for alternative asset classes has seen a marked increase in recent years while demand remains for strong and sustainable returns." › more |

Metsä Group adjusts production at Kerto LVL mills
Metsä Wood, the wood products business area of Metsä Group, will initiate statutory labour negotiations at its Kerto® LVL mills in Punkaharju and Lohja in order to adjust production in response to decreased demand in main markets. New Voith rotor for pulping recovered paper set to impress industry
Voith claims to have developed a new rotor, the IntensaRotor R, for pulpers used to process recovered paper. It has apparently been operating successfully for months with industrial customers and has proven that its energy consumption is as much as 20 percent below the usual values. The IntensaRotor R is suitable for installation in existing Voith pulpers as well as in pulpers from other manufacturers. › more |
