Stora Enso strengthens bio-based chemicals development and signs a joint technology development and license agreement with Rennovia

Valmet and Biochemtex to collaborate in developing technology for lignin derived biochemicals
Valmet and Biochemtex will start to cooperate in the field of conversion of lignin into biochemicals. The development project will combine and adapt LignoBoost and Moghi technologies. LignoBoost is Valmet's proprietary technology for the extraction of purified lignin from black liquor produced by pulp mills. Moghi in turn is Biochemtex's proprietary technology for the conversion of lignin into biofuels and biochemicals. › more |

Successful start-up of ANDRITZ FibreFlow drum pulper
The new drum pulpe, type FFD225, for the Spanish tissue manufacturer ISMA 2000 S.L., processes various recycled fiber materials and is designed for a feed capacity of 120 t/d. It has replaced an existing conventional pulper in order to raise the pulp quality for production of premium tissue products. › more |

Stora Enso inaugurates next generation Varkaus Mill in Finland
Stora Enso has successfully converted a fine paper machine at Varkaus Mill to produce virgin-fibre-based containerboard. Stora Enso invested EUR 110 million in the conversion work, which took place in 2015. Kraftliner production began in October 2015 and full production is expected in early 2017. The capacity of the Varkaus Mill will be about 390 000 tonnes of light-weight kraftliner per year. › more |

Mondi Group completes acquisition of SIMET corrugated plant in Poland
The corrugated plant, to be called Mondi Simet, is located in Grabonóg in the region of Poznan, Poland. Mondi intends to expand and upgrade this operation to a high-efficiency box plant, including the addition of a corrugator line for on-site board production. › more |

Nippon Paper Installs Demonstration Facilities for the Production of Woody Biomass Fuel
Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. signed a joint research and development agreement with Phoenix Pulp and Paper Public Company Limited, a core company of SCG Packaging's Fibrous Business Chain, invested by Nippon Paper Industries in Thailand, on April 21. In the course of this joint research, they will install demonstration facilities in Thailand for the production of woody biomass fuel using torrefaction technology along with the woody biomass resources that PPPC possesses. › more |

UPM's support of the "Local waters" school project enables the project to expand nationwide
UPM supports a school project called "Local waters". Originally launched in schools in the city of Rauma, the project will expand to other UPM mill locations in Finland in 2016. The project aims to improve grammar and encourage secondary school students to become more interested in natural sciences-particularly natural science related to water-by exploring the natural waters in the vicinity of the schools. › more |
