Avery Dennison launches the first certified portfolio of vegan labels
Avery Dennison has achieved another market first with the launch of a new certified portfolio of vegan labels, which contain no animal-derived components. Additionally, every item in the portfolio was created without animal testing, or the use of GMOs of animal origin. Because of this, the collection has received approval from Eve Vegan®, an independent organization created by Vegan France, which works to promote vegan alternatives in different industries, including food and medicine. › more |

Valmet & Mercer: Distributed control systems and digitalization development agreement
Mercer International and Valmet have signed a long-term agreement to accelerate Mercer’s global digital transformation program. The implementation of the agreement starts with the replacement of distributed control systems (DCS) at the Mercer Peace River pulp mill in Alberta and the Mercer Celgar pulp mill in British Columbia, Canada with the Valmet DNA Automation System. › more |

Andritz starts up technologies for Klabin’s Eukaliner brown pulp mill
Andritz has successfully started up state-of-the-art and environmentally leading pulp production and chemical recovery technologies for Klabin’s Puma II line in Ortigueira, Paraná, Brazil. Pablo Cadaval, General Mill Manager of Klabin’s Puma Unit, says: “We are very satisfied with the way we were able to manage and finish the project and start our key equipment for the Puma II line together with Andritz, despite the hardships of the COVID-19 pandemic.” › more |

Expanded production options for Fusion Topliner
Sappi is expanding production of its successful Fusion Topliner grade to its flagship mill in Gratkorn, Austria. The Fusion Topliner – a white virgin fibre liner for high-quality corrugated packaging – will also continue to be manufactured at Sappi’s Ehingen mill in Germany. With this project, Sappi isn’t just expanding its production capacity in the corrugated board business. By offering the same product quality from both mills, Sappi is bringing production closer to its customers – to guarantee a sustainable and short supply chain in the heart of Europe. › more |

Andritz to supply effluent and sludge treatment line to Holmen Iggesund Paperboard
Andritz has received an order from Holmen Iggesund Paperboard Ltd. to supply a state-of-the art primary effluent and sludge treatment line for its mill in Workington, UK. Start-up is scheduled for the first quarter of 2023. The mill will completely replace the existing primary effluent treatment plant to improve the efficiency of the system and reduce the level of total suspended solids (TSS) in the outfall. › more |

S.TO.R.I. celebrates 50ᵗʰ anniversary with ten-year growth trend
In 2021 S.TO.R.I. confirmed a ten-year growth trend during which its turnover increased by more than 25%. This result comes on the fiftieth anniversary of S.TO.R.I.’s foundation in 1972. Owned by Toscotec, a Voith company, S.TO.R.I. is located at Toscotec’s headquarters in Lucca (Italy) and specializes in rolls maintenance services for paper and converting machines of the tissue and paper industry. Global Sawlog Markets Q3/2021
Record-high lumber prices in North America and Europe have moved both demand and sawlog values to some of the highest levels seen since WRQ started tracking sawlog markets in 1995. Valmet: Automation system for biomass-fired heating plant in Finland
Valmet will supply a DNA Automation System to Turun Seudun Energiantuotanto’s biomass-fired heating plant in Oriketo, Finland. The new system will replace the existing automation system that has reached the end of its life cycle. The system will also provide a remote-control connection to the central control room at the company’s Naantali power plant. With a full heat production capacity of 40 megawatts, the Oriketo bioheat plant is one of the largest of its kind in Finland. › more |
