DS Smith commissions Voith to rebuild PM 4 at Viana to increase production capacity and efficiency
DS Smith, global manufacturer of sustainable containerboard and specialty papers, has commissioned Voith to rebuild its PM 4 at the company’s Viana site in Northern Portugal. Producing around of 400,000 tons of kraftliner and high-performance top kraftliner per year, the mill is well positioned in Southern Europe. The extensive rebuild will increase production and improve overall efficiency. Production will expand to around 428,000 tons per year with a machine design speed of 1,100 m/min. The start-up of the project is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2023. › more |

Eurosac Congress 2023: From nature to nature
More than 130 delegates met at this year’s Eurosac Congress from 4–6 May in Verona, Italy, for a vibrant knowledge transfer and networking. Under the motto “Paper sacks: from nature to nature”, the discussions focused on recent EU packaging legislation and on various approaches for paper sack recycling and fibre recovery. The grand finale was the presentation of the industry’s most promising innovations at the Eurosac Grand Prix Award. › more |

Liansheng Pulp & Paper successfully starts up two Andritz PrimeLineTM tissue machines
Liansheng Pulp & Paper (Zhangzhou) Co., Ltd. has successfully started up two Andritz tissue machines including stock preparation and automation systems at its mill in Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, China. The tissue machines of the type PrimeLineTM W 2000 have a design speed of 2,000 m/min and a working width of 5.65 m. Both are equipped with energy-saving components like 20 ft. PrimeDry Steel Yankees and steam-heated hoods. › more |

Silbo upgrades all its pallet wrapping to paper with Mondi
Mondi has collaborated with Silbo to upgrade its pallet wrapping from plastic stretch film to Mondi’s kraft paper Advantage StretchWrap. Silbo has installed the first EW Technology PaperWrap machine at its plant in Zory, Poland and provides more sustainable flexible packaging for its broad range of customers, including those supplying fruits and vegetables. › more |

Voith, Visy and Appita: Joint energy summit on decarbonization in paper production
Voith, in collaboration with its customer Visy, a global packaging and resource recovery company, held a two-day workshop on decarbonization in papermaking in Melbourne. The event was supported by Appita, the Australasian pulp and paper technical association. The Energy Summit brought together leaders and experts to discuss the latest solutions and proven technologies for energy efficiency, cost savings and operational improvements. › more |
