Saica has selected Voith to install the OnEfficiency.Strength digital solution. The innovative package for saving starch and consequently reducing CO₂ emissions will be used at PM 10 at the El Burgo de Ebro site (Spain) as well as the PM 70 at Nogent-sur-Seine site (France). OnEfficiency.Strength is currently “a unique solution on the market”, developed specifically for paper production. The application is already successfully in operation worldwide. Especially after raw material costs have risen significantly, there is an increasing need for intelligent solutions that quickly reduce production costs.

International technology group Andritz has received an order from Mpact Operations (Pty) Ltd. (Mpact) to upgrade a pulping line at its Mkhondo Paper Mill in Mpumalanga, South Africa. The upgrade will boost the line’s capacity and improve the strength properties of the product. This will help the customer respond to the strong domestic and international demand for high-quality sustainable packing solutions.

ABB has launched its latest Automation Software Maintenance (ASM) lifecycle management program to cover the software related to Paper Machine Drives (PMC800) and Pulp and Paper Process Control Library (PPLib800xA). The new service offering is an extension of ABB’s ASM program, and complements the Quality Control System (QCS) ASM program that was introduced in January 2023.

Valmet will supply automation to enfinium’s energy-from-waste project located at Kelvin Way in Sandwell and Dudley in the UK. The order was placed by Acciona, the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for this facility. The order was included in Valmet’s orders received of the first quarter 2023. The value of the order will not be disclosed. The automation system will be taken over by the end customer in September 2025.

UPM Raflatac is pleased to announce the launch of its new collection of wine, spirits and beverage label materials – Rêverie 3 – that embraces circularity by using recycled fibers in aesthetically attractive labels. The new collection demonstrates, via unique collaborations with five Spanish designers, that sustainability and impactful design can work together to deliver stunning results. The Rêverie 3 collection offers packaging designers a toolkit of visually appealing labels that are all made with materials from well-managed, FSC^® certified (FSC C012530) forests, recycled materials and other controlled sources.

International technology group Andritz will supply a new black liquor evaporation plant to the unbleached kraft pulp producer Hyogo Pulp Industries, Ltd., Japan. It will replace the mill’s two existing evaporation lines. The evaporation plant will evaporate water from the black liquor, a by-product of the kraft process, so that it can be burned efficiently in the mill’s recovery boiler. “Andritz’s technology will help us to eliminate existing bottlenecks in production, and it will support us in our recycling-oriented operations,” said Naoki Ikawa, Representative Executive Director at Hyogo Pulp Industries.

Stora Enso, global provider of renewable solutions in packaging, biomaterials and wooden constructions, has selected ABB for supplying sectional drive systems for their Oulu mill in Northern Finland, where their former paper line will be converted into a consumer board line for folding box board and coated unbleached kraft.

Full-line supplier Voith launched the new InfibraFiner at the Zellcheming trade fair, adding a state-of-the-art, innovative and sustainable product to its BlueLine product family. The award-winning refiner offers up to 28 percent additional capacity and optimum energy efficiency. The development of the InfibraFiner is based on more than 60 years of research and development work and over 1,000 successful installations of its predecessor, the TwinFlo Refiner.
