Lecta has achieved DIN CERTCO industrial compostability certification for its EraCup Natural paperboard, an innovative product for food service applications. Why is this certification important? It ensures that compostability claims are scientifically validated and that items are accepted in industrial composting facilities, unlike “biodegradable” products that may not fully degrade.

The Navigator Company has begun the pre-engineering phase for the conversion of its PM3 paper machine, located at the integrated pulp and paper mill in Setúbal with the aim of shifting its production towards low basis weights’ flexible packaging paper. This project reinforces the company's strategic commitment to innovative and sustainable packaging solutions, aligning with the growing global demand for alternatives to plastic and the transition to biodegradable and recyclable materials.

Toscotec will take part in the conference of Tissue World Düsseldorf on 8 April in Düsseldorf, Germany. Stefano Pecchia, Toscotec’s Energy Technology Director, and Gabriele Romanini, Toscotec’s Sales Manager, will deliver a technical speech titled “Decarbonization in the Paper Industry”.

International technology group Andritz has entered into a strategic partnership with Armis, the cyber exposure management & security company. Andritz has sold its stake in Otorio, a provider of OT (Operational Technology) and CPS (Cyber Physical Systems) security to Armis who now holds full ownership of Otorio. Andritz will collaborate with Armis to further strengthen its digital customer solutions in this increasingly critical area.

Valmet is to deliver a press roll for the TwinRoll wash press at Mercer Rosenthal mill in Germany. The new TwinRoll Press Roll will ensure the availability and performance of the press and increase its lifetime. The replacement roll will be delivered during the second quarter of 2026. The order is included in Valmet’s orders received of the first quarter 2025. The value of the order will not be disclosed.

Billerud has developed a recyclable, heat-sealable paper designed to replace plastic in packaging applications with high demands for sealing performance and recyclability.

The Navigator Company announced that it will increase the price of all Packaging Papers by 4-7%, effective with orders shipping April 1st 2025 onwards. The price adjustment is necessary due to the higher input costs essential for paper manufacturing, namely, but not exclusively, pulp and energy, which have experienced significant increases over the last months.

Andritz is launching a comprehensive research and development program called BioCircleToZero, which aims to double the value derived from wood without harvesting more trees. Business Finland, the government’s agency for trade and investment promotion, has granted Andritz 10 million euros in funding for the BioCircleToZero program. An additional 20 million euros will be provided by Business Finland to partners contributing to the program.

Valmet has received an order for a complete Valmet IQ Quality Management System package from one of North America’s largest pressure-sensitive laminate producers. It will be delivered to the customer’s Midwest facility and include Valmet IQ Moisturizers for moisture and curl control, Valmet IQ Silicone measurement, Valmet IQ Reflective Spectrometer measurement for adhesive, two Valmet IQ Single Sided Scanner S units, and closed-loop moisture MD/CD control and MD Silicone control. The order is included in Valmet’s orders received for the first quarter of 2025. The value of the order will not be disclosed. The delivery is scheduled for August 2025.
