Voith's rebuild measures secure energy savings and efficiency increases in the dry end for Papierfabrik Jass
In March 2024, Voith carried out extensive upgrades to the predryer section and the heat recovery of paper manufacturer Jass' PM 3 at its Fulda site. Since up to two-thirds of the energy consumed during paper production is required in the dryer section, Jass is achieving great savings potential and significantly increased machine availability at the site. The measures implemented during the month-long rebuild now show their effect: The company reports improved runability and energy savings in the dryer section of PM 3, which produces 280,000 tons of paper annually with basis weights of 120 to 140 g/m2.
DS Smith Kemsley’s service level agreement with Voith increases process performance, efficiency and availability
Voith’s service solutions for each machine segment of the production line offer papermakers direct access to the expertise of the international full-line supplier. At DS Smith’s Kemsley Mill in the UK, a service approach with regular inspections of all stock preparation equipment ensures optimal maintenance for resource-efficient production and high-quality stock. DS Smith has now confirmed its trust in Voith again by extending their service contract at Kemsley mill, UK, for the entire stock preparation of four production lines for a further three years.
Emtec Electronic strengthens its business in North America
The German company emtec Electronic GmbH has decided to strengthen its business in North America (including the USA and Canada) and go its own way. In order to be as flexible as possible in the North American market, the company has opted for direct sales.
Valmet to supply modernization of a heating plant for ŠKO-Energo, s.r.o., Czech Republic
Valmet is to supply the modernization of ŠKO-Energo’s heating plant in Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic. The project includes converting the two existing circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boilers from coal to biomass and delivering a new bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) boiler. The order also includes a flue gas cleaning system for the new boiler and modifications to the flue gas cleaning systems of the upgraded boilers. The order is included in Valmet’s orders received of the fourth quarter 2024. The value of the order will not be disclosed.
Andritz acquires recycling technology specialist ATN Engineering
International technology group Andritz has acquired ATN Engineering B.V., a Dutch company specializing in advanced recycling technologies. This strategic acquisition strengthens Andritz’s position in recycling solutions by adding ATN’s state-of-the-art degassing and de-oiling systems to its portfolio.
SecureCert: G&D introduces new feature for mission-critical infrastructures
The German KVM manufacturer Guntermann & Drunck (G&D) presents SecureCert, a new security feature for its KVM-over-IP systems. This new feature meets the most stringent security requirements and enables use in mission-critical environments. SecureCert ensures adherence to the important security standards FIPS 140-3, Common Criteria and DoDIN APL, thus protecting data and IT infrastructures in particularly sensitive areas such as government institutions or other security-critical areas.
Toscotec’s TAD machine starts up at Hengan in China
Chinese tissue producer Hengan International Group started up a Tadvision® tissue machine supplied by Toscotec at their headquarters facility in Fujian. This is the second of two TAD (Through-Air-Drying) machines that Toscotec supplied to Hengan, of which the first came online in 2023 at their Xiaogan mill in Hubei.
Venator announces price increase in Europe, Africa and the Middle East
Venator - a global manufacturer of pigments and additives – today announced a mandatory price increase of €300/t for all titanium dioxide pigments and performance additive products sold in Europe, Africa and the Middle East (EMEA), effective February 1, 2025 (customer terms permitting). This adjustment is necessary to address the sustained elevated and volatile energy costs that are impacting manufacturing across Europe.

Arauco, a global forest industry company, has awarded AFRY an EPCM (Engineering, Procurement, Construction Management) assignment for the Balance of Plant of its new greenfield pulp mill in Inocência, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil.
Toscotec starts up energy saving upgrade at AB Grigeo Group in Lithuania
Toscotec has started up a high efficiency TT SteamBooster steam generation system at one of the AB Grigeo Group’s mill UAB Grigeo Tissue in Grigiskes, Lithuania. The new TT SteamBooster was implemented into the hood and steam systems of their PM6, a Toscotec-supplied Ahead tissue line that came online in 2015.
